Welcome parents and students!
It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Evans Middle School family for going on four years now! Just from working with the students last year, I am excited about how much they have accomplished and I cannot wait to see where this year takes us!
I understand that to some of you I am still a bit of a mystery teacher, so let me tell you a little about myself! I was born in Marshaville, GA (a little town near Macon) and raised in Powder Springs, GA. I decided going into my 6th grade year that I wanted to give chorus a try, and I never regretted my choice for a second. In my 7th grade district honor chorus, I got to work with a wonderful director that changed my outlook on music. Once I found out she got paid to do something she loved (working with choirs), I was hooked. I ended up following that dream went to school at Shorter College and then Reinhardt University to study with this same professor. In May 2014, I graduated from Reinhardt with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While in school I received numerous awards in my field of Music Education. Most recently, I was awarded the 2014 GMEA College Music Education Scholarship.
I take pride in being a true “choir geek.” I was part of many college choirs and a capella groups throughout school and was given opportunities to perform all over the USA and parts of Europe. Because I am a fan of all music, I like to incorporate different genres and styles in the music classroom. I want my classroom to be a fun, but challenging environment where students feel comfortable enough to step out of their comfort zone and push themselves to become better musicians. I look forward to continuing my work with Evans students, and I desire to pass on to them the same love for music that I gained when I was their age. As this year speeds on, I am eager to share and execute my vision for this program. It will be a challenging year, but I know with the help of parents and students alike the rest of this year will be amazing!
