IMPORTANT SHOW/REHEARSAL DATES
Spring Show was moved from its original May 9th day to Saturday, May 16th at 2:00PM. There will be only one show this year due to school scheduling conflicts. There will also be a mandatory Spring Show rehearsal day on Thursday, May 14th at Unity Baptist Church. We will stay after school, eat an early dinner, and take buses over to Unity. Rehearsal will go from once we get there (around 4:45PM) to 8:00PM. It will be a long rehearsal, but a VERY, VERY important one since this will be the first time we are running the show together with every single grade and class. Again, this is mandatory. If a student is not able to attend this rehearsal, they will not be permitted to perform in the Spring Show (with few exceptions to be approved by me). It is not fair to the other kids since we will be making changes here and there during the rehearsal. The Spring Show is a grade, and (like last time) I must have written or verbal notification from a parent as to why a student will not be able to attend an event in order to get an alternate assignment. Students must be picked up from this rehearsal at Unity Baptist Church at 8:00 PM. There will be no transportation back to the school from the church. Please make plans accordingly. COSTUMES For this decades show, the students must provide their own costumes for their assigned decades. Costumes do not have to be elaborate, but they must be reminiscent of the correct decade. I would like to have a costume check on Tuesday, May 12th during school to approve the costumes. All costumes must be school appropriate. If there is a struggle to find costumes or fund costumes for your student, please reach out to me BEFORE May 12th in order for me to help in the search for a costume. Lead characters will be given an overall concept for their costume, but I will provide specific items if needed. Please ask around to friends and family to find these items. Again, they do not have to be elaborate. Students will be given a presentation in class during the following week about clothing and style items to be found in their decade and what to look for. WORK DAYS Those interested in work days (building, painting, designing set pieces), we will be using mostly Fridays and Saturdays to work on these items. Depending on how many people volunteer, I would like to have our first work day after school this Friday, April 24th. We will be piecing together everything we need to create the skeletons of our set pieces. If you are able to help, are knowledgeable in the building department, and/or have access to power tools, PLEASE send me an email expressing your interest. The next possible work days are as follows:
PARENT VOLUNTEERS I will also need parent volunteers for the Spring Show Rehearsal after school on May 14th. We have an enormous amount to get done in a tiny time frame, so help on this day will be appreciated as well. You will be helping with herding kids, keeping them quiet, making sure everyone is in there correct spots, make sure students are not roaming into places they are not allowed, etc. SPRING SHOW SHIRTS/TIE-DYING VOLUNTEERS I sent out Spring Show t-shirt order forms on Friday this past week. Students must turn in the forms with shirt quantities to me by THIS Wednesday, April 22nd. Money ($10/shirt) is not due until this Friday, April 24th. I will NOT take late forms after Wednesday afternoon. I will be tallying and ordering shirts after school on Wednesday. The shirts are plain white, but we will be tie-dying the shirts once they are delivered to the school. We are looking to have a “Tie-Dying Day” in class one day, and volunteers and any donations (buckets, rubber bands, dye, grocery bag, etc.) are greatly appreciated. I am looking at possibly Monday, May 11th as a day for this. All students, parents, and family members are allowed to order a shirt! TICKETS We will start having students sell tickets to the Spring Show in advance in May. Please be on the lookout. PROPS I will be sending out prop lists occasionally for pieces we are in search of for the show. If you have any items on the list you are willing to let us borrow or at least know where to find, please respond when the list is sent. UNIFORM RENTAL RETURNS Now that we are finished with our normal concert season, rented uniforms need to be CLEANED and returned by Monday, May 4th. If a student attempts to hand in a uniform that smells... um, less than satisfactory… I will not take it until it has been washed. These uniforms (EXCEPT TIES) can be washed on the delicate setting and hung dry. To be extra careful, I would suggest taking it to the dry cleaners. I have a list of all students who rented items and will start contacting parents after the due date. I have the ability to request a hold on grades at the end of the year until the item is returned to me. Thank you!
