District 6 Middle School Honor Chorus is a chorus comprised of select students from schools in Henry, Clayton, Pike, Spalding, Fayette, and Coweta counties. This year's event will be held on Friday, November 20th at Unity Baptist Church. In order to be selected to participate, students must audition for Ms. Scott. The audition consists of singing a verse of a song, sight reading, and tonal memory exercises. If chosen, students will be given music and a practice CD. Students must listen to and learn their part as well as attend the after school rehearsals (2-3 at most) required to get them ready. Cost to participate is $25 which covers music, practice CD, and dinner on Friday night.
If a student's family is leaving that Friday for Thanksgiving break, they may not participate. All participants are required to attend every rehearsal including the sectional the night before (Thursday, November 19th). No exceptions will be made. Participation in sporting events is not excused. Since this is an all day event, students are excused from school on that Friday; however they are responsible for all makeup work and tests that will be missed. Auditions are Tuesday, September 22nd and Wednesday, September 23rd after school. Students have signed up for audition times during class. The purpose of this activity is to learn about and be exposed to different types of choral music. In the journal entry, students are to listen to the recording without watching the video and write at least 4 COMPLETE sentences pertaining to what they heard and how they felt. Students are to use musical terms and phrases we use in class. Entries are to be well thought out.
